A missing job is invisible. Nobody applies. Nobody gets mad.
A closed job is a little trap. Someone is looking. They click. They write the cover letter. The form 404s, or the listing says this position has been filled. They remember your board as the place that wasted their time.
Do that twice and they go back to LinkedIn.
This is the trust problem, and it is the one job-product people underestimate because it does not show up in "number of listings."
I would rather ship 200 live, structured roles than 2,000 that include last month's graveyard.
What live actually takes:
- You have to know the job is still open, not just that it existed when you first saw it
- You have to know which company it belongs to, not a name collision with another Stripe
- You have to have salary or location often enough that filters mean something
- The apply URL has to be the listing, not an enrichment guess
That is not a blog-post scraper. That is monitoring.
When I talk about enrichment, this is what I mean. Consistent fields. Company records that do not mix two employers. Closed and filled events so your board or newsletter can drop the role instead of featuring it.
The audience hired you to save them time. A stale listing spends their time for them.
If you run a board or a digest, make "is this still open?" a first-class job. Coverage without that is just a louder mess.
