Email digest
Scheduled job newsletters for a feed, with a short intro and one blurb per job.
What the digest contains
A digest is an email for one feed and one recipient. In the default HTML format it has:
- A subject of
<feed name> — <n> new job(s). - A title line with the job count, the feed name and the date.
- A one-sentence intro.
- A short list of up to three highlights, chosen by stated salary first and remote work second.
- A full list. Each job shows its title, company, location with workplace type, salary (or "Not specified"), a remote-friendly line, a one-sentence blurb and an Apply link.
The digest only carries active, enriched jobs that became visible after the
previous send (by the feed's since field, first visible by default). Jobs are distinct by title and company, newest first, up to 200
per email. Each employer contributes at most 3 jobs unless the feed's filters
set max_jobs_per_company (1 to 100).
Set the format to markdown to send the plain job list instead, without the
intro, highlights or blurbs.
Schedule
Bordfeed checks every digest at the top of each hour and sends it when all of these pass, in order:
- Preferred hour. If you set
preferredHour(0 to 23), the digest is only sent during that hour in yourtimezone(an IANA name, defaultUTC). Without it, any hour passes. An invalid timezone falls back to UTC. - Frequency. One of
every_6h,every_12h,daily,weeklyorauto. A fixed frequency needs at least 90% of its interval since the last send. - Minimum jobs. At least
minJobCountnew jobs (1 to 100, default 1).
A digest that is skipped is checked again next hour.
Auto frequency
With auto, Bordfeed picks the timing from the volume of new jobs. The first
send happens as soon as there is at least 1 job. After that:
Nothing is sent less than 6 hours after the last send. Past that:
| New jobs | Sends once this long has passed since the last send |
|---|---|
| 50+ | 6 hours |
| 20+ | 6 hours |
| 5+ | 12 hours |
| 1+ | 24 hours |
How intros and blurbs are written
The intro is one sentence generated by a model from up to 12 sampled jobs. It must name employers from the jobs' company fields. If it names a brand that only appears in a job title, or if generation fails or times out (20 seconds), Bordfeed uses a fixed sentence with the job count instead.
Each job's blurb is its stored summary when it has one. Jobs without a summary share one model call per digest. A blurb is used only if it is at most 220 characters, has no link, names the job's own company and names no other employer in the digest. Otherwise the blurb is built from the job's fields, for example "Example Co is hiring a Senior Editor. Remote."
Limits
- 200 jobs per email.
- 3 jobs per employer by default.
- The scheduled digest does not debit credits.
